Londolozi is a world-renowned private safari lodge, founded in South Africa in the mid- 70's.  Most noteworthy, the stunning interior design of this 5* lodge has been partly responsible for having received countless international "best hotel" awards.  Furthermore, the author has first-hand experience having had the privilege to observing the excellent conservation practices that were implemented by John and Dave Varty in the late 70's.   Lodolozi has stood the test of time as it is still considered one of Africa’s finest luxurious game lodges.

“During my long walk to freedom, I had the rare privilege to visit Londolozi. There I saw people of all races living in harmony amidst the beauty that Mother Nature offers. Londolozi represents a model of the dream I cherish for the future of nature preservation in our country– Nelson Mandela
Londolozi is situated on the Sand River in the very heart of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. This reserve, in turn, forms part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a vast and growing area, currently covering 6 million acres and incorporating the famous Kruger National Park.

The root of the word Londolozi is the Zulu word for protect and means “protector of all living things” – an ambitious conservation ethic that Londolozi embraces in its sensitivity to the natural world. The reserve is internationally recognised for its far-sighted and progressive management of land and wildlife rehabilitation as well as productive community involvement.

Bold, inspiring materials mirror the extrusion of granite rocks that flank the camp while conveying the raw essence of Africa. A palette of silver, charcoal and elephant grey in a range of sumptuous materials creates an elegant and contemporary setting in each expansive suite.
The emphasis is on space, light and privacy while blurring the barrier between inside and out. A seamless integration with nature is achieved with large doors and windows all opening directly onto the Sand River.  Each suite has a private, heated swimming pool.

Wildlife at Lodolozi:

Breeding herds of elephant and buffalo roam throughout the Londolozi area, while white rhino and lion concentrations are amongst the highest recorded on the African continent.
However, it is the truly remarkable relationship which has developed over three decades between wild free-ranging leopards and ranger & trackers which makes Londolozi world famous. There is no disputing that viewing the leopards of Londolozi is one of life’s truly treasured experiences.
